I see. I got this because it was the cheapest way to get a commentary on all 12 minor prophets (my OT commentary collection is fairly poor). The CBC ones do include theological reflection, but it is usually just picking up on one or two key themes in each section, and drawing in other biblical verses on the same topic.

The authors don't really engage in any theological debates - there isn't really the space for it.

Thanks Mark,

I'll check out the BST volume sometime.

I wouldn't call the NIBC volumes on the Minor Prophets great either. Probably 'insightful given the short space.' I haven't bought any shorter more theologically driven commentaries on the Minor Prophets yet so I was trying to gauge if these were worth considering when the time came.

Hi Marcus, I'm afraid I haven't read any of the NIBC series except the one on Acts. I have read the volumes on the minor prophets in the Bible Speaks Today series, which were quite good. These CBC ones are more brief. The BST on Jonah by Rosemary Nixon is worth taking a look at, as it is much more detailed than most OT commentaries in the series.

my review of it is here:

I would say these CBC volumes are helpful, but haven't read one that falls into the "great" category yet.

Hi Mark,

How would you compare these volumes on the Minor Prophets with the NIBC volumes written by Achtemeier? When going through Jonah I enjoyed it, especially her theological comments.
