Chosing a bible translation is always difficult. When I was saved in 1990 i was given an NIV bible which is my main 'reading' bible. The bible i use for my daily reading and it has become familier and if you like a bit safe.

however I do read others now and again and find the differences quite jaring in the sence that i am used to one use of words over another. This is good as it helps me think about what I am reading rather than just reading. The last time I did that was with the NASB which was excellent.

To study with I use the new ESV study bible which has replaced the NIV study bible i used to use as my first point of reference. This has felt like the jump from o'level (or GCSE for you kids) to A level and has taken my study onto the next notch.

I am not in favour of gender neutral translations as i like to read what was 'origially' put rather than have it changed for my benefit.

But to each there own.....
